Sides

  • During the Vietnam war the major sides taken were the South Vietnamese and the North Vietnames. Anyone else who joined the war sided with one of these groups.
  • The Government of the Republic of Vietnam(GVN) wanted to be a democratic nation apart from the North Vietnamese.
  • The Southeast Asia Organization(SEATO) was an organization that supported the GVN. Dwight D. Eisenhower strongly supported and helped develop this organization.
  • The Democratic Republic of Vietnam(DRV) wanted to take over South Vietnam by force and continue under communist rule.
  • The National Liberation Front(NLF) was a group that supported the DRV. Anyone was allowed to join this group as long as they believed in a united Vietmam under communist rule and apposed the South Vietnamese leader, Ngo Dinh Diem.
  • America was one of the most influential outside forces contributing to the Vietnam war. Many American's apposed the war because they thought it was wrong to be interfearing in a civil war outside of America.
